How to keep the music playing when the internet fails
A dropped connection should not silence a full room. This guide explains why streaming-only setups are fragile and how to make your venue music reliable.
In short
- Streaming-only setups stop when the connection drops
- Local playback keeps the music running
- Staff need a way to control the music on site
- Test your fallback before a busy night
Why music stops
Many venues stream music from a tablet or phone over Wi-Fi. When the router restarts, the provider has an outage or the Wi-Fi is overloaded on a busy night, the music stops—and the room notices immediately.
Reliability checklist
Play locally
Keep the music for the night available on a device in your venue, not only in the cloud.
Use a cable
Connect the music device by Ethernet where possible; Wi-Fi is more fragile on busy nights.
Keep local control
Make sure staff can start, pause and skip on site without the internet.
Test the fallback
Unplug the internet before opening once and check that the music keeps playing.
Write it down
A short note for staff: what to do if something goes wrong during service.
How SkafRemix handles outages
The Edge plays locally in your venue. If the connection drops, playback continues and staff keep control via the Edge launcher and the remote keys. Guest requests, votes, the staff web page and remote changes pause and resync after reconnection.
Questions and answers
Can venue music work without internet?
Yes, if the music plays from a local device. Cloud-only streaming stops when the connection drops.
What stops working offline with SkafRemix?
Guest QR requests and votes, the staff web page and remote changes pause; local playback and on-site control continue.
Is Wi-Fi enough for the music device?
Wi-Fi works, but a wired Ethernet connection is more reliable on busy nights.
